

East Slope Back Country Horsemen
With members from all over the "East Slopes" of the
Majestic Rocky Mountains
Founded in 1978 at Valier, Montana the "East Slope Back Country Horsemen". Is a non-profit
volunteer organization which is dedicated to conserving the back country and wilderness areas.
We are very active in working with the U.S. Forest Service building bridges, fences, corrals,
clearing trails and taking care of other needed maintenance items within the Lewis and Clark
National Forest, including the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Scapegoat Wilderness areas.
We also help maintain the Pondera County Public Park and Trailhead at Swift Dam, eighteen
miles west of Dupuyer, Montana
Mission Statement:
The purpose of this organization shall be (1) To perpetuate the common sense use and enjoyment of horses in the
road less back country and (2) To assist the various government agencies in maintenance and management of the
resource and (3) To educate, encourage, and solicit active participation by various members of the general public
In the wise and sustaining use of horses, commensurate with our heritage and back country resource.
