PROJECT: Edna Creek
Trail # 489
 | Access:
Take Hwy 2 approx. 25 miles past West Glacier to
mile marker #184.8. Make a right turn right
off the Hwy at the Nimrod Trailhead. This
is where the Middle Fork River turns away from
the Hwy and is followed by the Big River Trail
into the wilderness. |
 | Facilities:
There is plenty of parking, bathrooms and water
from the river. |
 | Description:
The trail is 4.0 miles total in length
completely within the Great Bear Wilderness.
Provides a rigorous day hike or ride to the top
of a high ridgeline, just behind the summit of
Mount Furlong, with views of the lakes in the
Tranquil Basin. From the overlook at the
top of the ridge, it is possible to see the whole
world, (maybe just some of the best part) with
Tranquil Basin and its lakes far below.
Trail is reached by taking the Big River Trail
#155 from the trailhead at the mouth of Bear
Creek and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River
for approximately 1.7 miles. When you reach
the Wilderness Boundary sign, continue a short
distance across Edna Creek and approximately 300
feet beyond to the trail junction with the Edna
Creek Trail #489.
With the help of the Bob Marshal Foundation, we
would like to clear brush, which has started to
crowd the trail in some spots. |
 | Please
note: We will work on Saturday, potluck
Saturday night and a pleasure ride on Sunday. |
